Apart from spelling mistakes that I am keen on noticing, I admit to making SEO mistakes. Rookie or not I and a few of you proudly make them.
After deletion of pearlsagency.co.ke I had to take some time and strategize how I was going to maintain the blog section. Relevant and optimized content was my objective. I know I don’t know it all, but at least I have specific objectives.
Ready to learn from my SEO mistakes? Great …
Key Words.
This for me is a challenge. How will I be able to talk about brand management and digital marketing in every post?
Did you see what I did there? 😎
More often than not brands try to talk about the things that set them aside from other brands and not what exactly they do. We talk about why us. Why choose us. The famous awe factor. Rarely do we adequately describe exactly what we do or our purpose especially B2B brands.
For example, Pearls Agency is a creative consult firm. The problem with this phrase is not many people know exactly what we do from it. However, when we say Pearls Agency is a brand management consult firm, a few corporate eyes turn to our direction. When we say we are a digital marketing consult firm now we initiate interest among the startup firms. When we say we are a social media marketing agency then even you get to glance at our direction.
An average start up brand doesn’t know the necessity of having a creative consult firm look into their brand, but understand they need help to get their brand into social media. By framing our content around the idea that we are able to help in social media marketing as opposed to a being a creative consult firm we give search engines and customers a more tangible way to understand what we do.
Features or Value.
Pearls Agency is a brand management agency. Bored you already right. The more I use the words brand management I am going to lose your concentration (an important factor in maintaining a functional digital sales cycle). Any blog is a sales pitch platform- it has to be informative and convincing that we know what we are doing. However if I talk about why you need to have a colorful logo, power agents and engaging content creation and dissemination you are more likely to see the need to engage us.
Taking time to think about your target audience and figuring out how to present a solution to them is key. What values are important to your customers? What features of your brand add value to your customers? Take time and let your customers know what you do and how it can help them. Don’t always talk about how awesome you are! We all are awesome.
Meta Tags and data.
Thank God for plugins. Even though the amount of effort for you to get from 🤐 to 👍 is nerve wracking. The plugin I use rates every word, sentence structure, sub title, conjunctions and wait for it and the slug! The slug!
Understanding particularly how your meta data and tags affect your ranking on SEO will give you the boost you need to sweat it out and get your words right. You might not need 1000key words. By knowing your audience you are able to predict their mode of research and include your solution in your descriptions.
In-links
It sounded right and I had to do it.
Internal link structure helps everyone. When you read this article, I have included some in-links😊. One of the obvious importance of in-links is so that you can help your readers understand concepts that complement each other. Another importance is that it helps search engines who look for your anchor text along with a host of opportunities.
Your website is your pitch. It has to flow. In-links helps in building the flow. An internal linking system is not only for your blog content of main pages but also to your social media network platforms. As you build on your in-link structure consider working on your site map too. This will help search engines when they crawl around.
If you haven’t given your internal linking system any thought, run through your pages and think about how to link other pages. Could you add a section for related topics on your blog posts? Could you provide additional information on your products page featuring product specifics? Could you provide links to related or relevant material on individual content pages? Try it.
Images /Videos and SEO.
Once I have written a blog I would as much love to throw in a picture here and there then leave it at that. That’s a mistake! Images and videos without any written content is a SEO mistake. Properly tag and explain your visual content so that you don’t miss out on SEO success.
For videos, include a summary or additional information at the end. For images, always make sure the title and alt attributes are filled out effectively. Search engines are unable to watch your video. For them to effectively crawl it you have to properly tag it and explain it properly.
You seem to be in need of a solution. Would you like a creative consult over your website SEO status? How about you give it a try by yourself with what we have discussed above and along the way call in to find out how to rectify a specific rookie mistake that you notice.
